Non-Scale Victories

With this program, my body has lost a ton of weight in a very short amount of time.  When thinking about this from a rational standpoint, I freaked out a bit at first about fearing that, if I ever reach my goal weight, I could seriously be a huge bag of skin!  Since this isn't all that motivating, I came to the realization that although losing over a pound a day at the scale is fantastic, it's probably not a good thing. Scientifically, the body needs time to catch up and sometimes holds on to water weight. It also needs time to tighten up all that skin as the fat cells whoosh out of the body.

So, I've decided that on days that I do not lose at the scale my body is focusing on toning. With that, I have decided to call my stalls at the scale "toning" days.  This gives my mind relief (it's all a mind game, isn't it?) that staying the same on the scale HAS A PURPOSE and is NOT A FAILURE!

Below, you will find some thoughts about some non-scale victories that I have experienced...whether they be "toning" days or non-scale related altogether. I find them helpful in reminding me that this is not a diet or a short term plan...this is a path to wellness that is permanent and changing my thought process to appreciate EVERY LITTLE THING I do toward wellness as a success is vital to my success!

May 24, 2014 - 2 weeks from initial Load Day during my first round with Omni
I decided to clean out my closet over the holiday weekend to see if there were "new" clothes I could update my summer wardrobe with.

This is the dress from my "before" picture...it is already too big!!!
I haven't worn this dress since 2009, after my daughter was born. It go shrunk in the wash the first time I washed it and hasn't fit since. I'm wearing it in this picture comfortably with NO SPANX!

Another dress I haven't worn in at least 2 years!

I bought this shirt in February and couldn't get it all the way buttoned around the bottom. There are multiple inches in the back that are loose and I'll need to rig it with some elastic in the back to be able to wear it in public now...otherwise, I've found myself a new night shirt!

I was able to bag up a whole trash bag of clothes to pass on to my cousin who is also on this journey with me. It felt sooo good! Can't wait to see if my winter clothes even fit in the fall!

Sometimes, it's important to focus on the proof of your successes that can NOT be measured by the scale.  For example, focusing on the fact that you have remained on protocol despite temptation or other unforeseen circumstances, the fact that your rings fit better, you can fit into clothes you have worn in a while or you can zip up a smaller size with ease....all of these are non-scale victories.  Being able to stand your ground when others pass judgement on your choices, helping others understand that you saying "no" to food offered is not an insult, but rather is a way for you to focus on the person's company instead of the food is huge. Changing the way you think about food, about health, and taking steps towards treating yourself to a longer and happier life - that is monumental! Do not discount your efforts, the changes you have made, your new outlook - they are all more important than the number at the scale, anyhow...especially if you want to maintain your progress for life!

Say what?! That's a size 16? Well, I went back the week after, and needed a 14! Too bad they didn't have one  or I would'a snatched it up!

This dress is pictured above after my first week on P2...this is a few days into P3 and I'm happy to report that my stomach no longer sticks out farther than my chest :) Oh, the little things...

So these are some Before/After pics for your viewing pleasure. I started at a size 24 and purchased a size 14 in this polka dotted dress to wear to my niece's baptism. It is comfortable, and will be perfect for when I transition to teaching this fall. With the belt, I can afford to lose some more at the beginning of the year before it will be too big to wear. Love it! Did I mention it was on sale?! Even better!

So I've talked about how I like to go to the closest store on my lunch break to try on clothes to make sure that I'm still shrinking? I have found this especially helpful in maintaining motivation for P3, as the scale just stays the same pretty much every day...so here are two size 14 dresses - I am so excited to think about all of the options that I will have in December when I'm almost at my goal weight - I'll be interviewing for teaching positions then and my interview-suit options will be limitless! Yipee!

(ABOVE) So here's me on April 25th at a bachelorette party - it's the best close up I can find that demonstrates the hairdo that I started this whole process with.

Then there's about half way through P2 on the left (it looks like my hair got longer - but really my face got slimmer)...and then my newest do on the right - day one of P3! Short and sassy, easy and doesn't hide my jawline quite as much.

Here was my inspiration (below):

The top left pic is of me last fall about 30 pounds heavier...I loved that cut...I also love me some JLaw :) Now if only I could get my make up to look that stellar...

The summer is coming to an end, and the beginning of my student teaching is right around the corner. Most of what I have been trying on in the stores have been dresses. I got a wild urge one day this week to try on some pants just for kicks...I was pleasantly surprised, once again - hence another non-scale victory. Turns out I can finally wear a women's "petite" from the actual petite section at JCP. Oh. Em. Gee! I am so looking forward to finding clothes that fit right this fall, without any hemming!
